Originally posted by Damian.T I'm ordering a K3-II next week and the lens I was going to get with it was the 18-135mm. However, reading another thread on sport photography, the 50-135mm is said to be the better choice, so I looked into buying one of those. I then read that I'd be be better of spending a bit more money and getting myself a 60-250mm, which I think I'll probably do.
But that leaves a gap for the closer shots and I looked at the 16-85, but I really like the images everyone is posting of their 16-50mm, and that's an f2.8. The good news now is that I've found a good second hand 16-50mm for around £450, on the negative side it appears, reading through this thread, is that appears to be the most unreliable lens, ever!
Anyway, before I take the gamble and go for the 16-50mm, as my job is to take photos of 4x4's, both static and flying through mud holes, does anyone have any examples of fast car or sports shots taken with their 16-50mm?

Can't help you with those shots, but I can tell you the 16-50 is my second favorite lens after the 50-135. I have one of the slightly older Hoya versions that is supposedly more failure prone than the newer versions which are rumored to have improved SDM motors, but no sign of problems yet and mine's over 2 years old now. Mine is slightly softer wide open at 16mm, but stop it down 1/3 of a stop or zoom a tiny bit and it's fine. The 60-250 is also very highly regarded but is a lot bigger and heavier than the 50-135. I consider the 50-135 one of the best lenses Pentax has ever made, and I'm not alone.
