Pentax K-20 D, DA* 16-50 @36mm, 1/40, F9, ISO 100. January 2010.

St. Paul's Church, Bray, Ireland. The image was completely reworked from the original raw file using DxO Photolab. Using automasks feature, I selectively darkened the sky. Back in the day, I was using SilkyPix DS Pro 3 and I was unable to fix the overexposed sky. Keeping the original RAW files helps.

Throwing away raw files is like throwing away negatives...

I posted a few weeks ago about getting a used 50-135 and how wonderful it is. Turns out it's only wonderful for the bottom 2/3 or so of the frame (above about 90mm). I kept on getting people's faces out of focus, or so I thought. It was maddening because their bodies would be in focus, but their faces were not. I tried the brick wall test. Turns out it's not a focusing issue. It's been a month since I bought it, so I can't return it. I wonder how much it will cost to get it fixed, and how long it will take. Has anyone else had decentering problems with a DA* lens? If so, did you get it fixed?

@Designosophy, I had a lot of issues with DA* 16-50, including decenterring. On having it fixed, I sold it, because it had been collecting dust ever since I acquired Sigma 18-35 F1.8 art.

Looks like Precision Camera charges a flat $312 fee to repair the 50-135. Is there anyone else out there who works on this lens?

What is the problem? If it is SDM failure, you can get it converted to screwdrive.

I think KEH will replace the SDM if that's the issue. You could also have Uncle Vanya convert it to screw drive if you don't mind the noise.

Unfortunately, it's decentered.
