Pentax K20D, DA* 16-50mm F2.8 @ 18mm, F9, 1/50, ISO 200. June 2010, Tallinn. Reworked from the original RAW file in June 2018. Working with the original raw files is like entering the time machine.

At that time I was passing this place every time I went back home from work. I documented several stages of demolition of the building in the background. It used to be the academy of arts. Accidentally I noticed that a statue could spice up the otherwise boring scene. Cross posted from the facebook group Pentaxians.

I agree that it does add something to the scene, but I also can’t help wondering what the scene looks like now. If you still have the same kit, it would be interesting to see what’s different in the scene, as well as how you might frame it, now.

I do not have that kit anymore. I am am now using K-3 and Sigma 18-35 Art. I could try repeating the same scene tomorrow with the existing kit. First to match the framing of the 2010 shot and then 2018 take.

I imagine you could go close with your new kit, although it might be a big ask to get the framing exact. Nonetheless, such things are often done over long periods of time with quite different cameras and lenses (not to mention, medium), so it could still be interesting.

Rock

A former student who stops by for a hike occasionally says that I take a picture of every rock I see. Untrue, but I do take a lot of pictures of rocks. This rock is one of my favorites. It lives in an arroyo in the Sonoran desert

I usually hike with the DA 18-135 and K-3 but yesterday brought the DA* 16-50 instead.

Update on my, oops, now my son-in-law's 16-50, My daughter's family is visiting and I told my son-in-law about the failed SDM. We searched PF for the screw drive conversion procedure. He followed the directions and voila, AF works again. I'm amazed at how quiet the lens is in screw drive and I think if anything the AF is faster than with the SDM.. I shoulda done it a long time ago. Now that the AF is fixed and as my DA*s have not been getting much love lately I gave them to the son-in-law. :

Same scene as in my previous post, 8 years later and with different kit. Pentax K-3 II, Sigma 18-35 Art @18mm, F9, 1/80, ISO 100. I tried to frame it as close to the original as possible. Combination of K20D and DA* 16-50, produced slightly more vivid colours, but again the lighting was different, so might not be the most fair comparison.

Thanks for taking the trouble to do this. Unusual to see a building replaced with an open space!
