I've thought about the DFA *50 too, but as with you, I'm pretty pleased with the 55. It doesn't have great corners wide open, but if I'm honest with myself, I don't shoot at f1.4 a whole lot anyway (maybe I would if I owned the DFA *50).

Thanks! Yes, it has crossed my mind several times to get the 50, not just because of possibility of better 1.4 shooting, but also improved corners and general performance. But that is still a lot of money for that. I will buy that 85 thou. And think about that 50 after that. Or if my DA*55 suddenly would die. I like how it renders skin colour, and sharpness for portraits is really good IMO.

I have a DA* 55mm but posted a few of those shots in other threads. I broke down at the end of 2018 and ordered up the DA* 300 lens and the Pentax 1.4x TC because I thought the 55-300 PLM was good enough at 200mm or so but not at 300mm. The weekend weather in Louisville has generally been wet, gray and cold since then. Well, at least two out of three of those every weekend. But there was one afternoon that I could take the 300 out for a bit. Hand held grab shot without the TC. Man and dog at Water front Park.

My friend Tara was emceeing a fund raising event for The Arrow Fund, an organization that provides medical care, fostering and adoption services for tortured, abused and neglected animals. (I’ve posted a couple others in 55mm lens thread.) I have to pay attention using this lens. Autofocus is slow and DoF is narrow wide open but when I do my job the results are worth it.
