I've looked at a LOT of pictures of the DA 70mm and the ones that really stood out, to me, were the landscape pictures. I think it's an absolute beauty for that, better than any other lens in that focal range. Pictures of flowers are also beautiful, but the short MFD might not make it ideal for that.
Honestly, it's a bit too contrasty/bold rendering for portraits, which needs softer/more delicate/slightly less contrasty rendering. There's a reason people usually end up going for the FA 77 or the FA 85 1.4 for that.
I have not yet pulled the trigger on the 70mm but it looks like I might have to, at some point... but for portraits my SMC-M 100mm f/2.8 actually beats it - in my humble opinion. So it hasn't been a priority purchase... but I'd love to have the 70.
