Yeah...I swerved to miss him with my bike at the last minute...didn't see him until I was right upon him. He was shy...certainly didn't want to come out until I was long gone.

DA70 goes motor racing

Yesterday I went out to the local track with a 55-300 to try some panning shots with limited sucess.
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/lens-clubs/96267-da-zoom-club-12.html#post1521434

I realised that i'd left SR ON the whole day so went back today to have another go with SR OFF!

The light wasnt great with overcast and a bit of rain so I took the DA70 as this FL suited.
I got a far higher % of decent panning shots with SR OFF in similar light conditions. 1/50 - 1/60s pretty good, 1/30 not bad, 1/15 only a couple.

Merc SLS - f8 , 1/60

Merc SLS - f6.3 , 1/50

Audi R8 LMS - f8 , 1/60

Audi R8 LMS - f6.3 , 1/50

There were a few other photo geeks out there... me with a compact DA70 ltd (130grams) and these guys....

On my Left: Bazooka#1 this guy pretty pretty much ignored me (D300 - with Nikkor? 70-200? His mate had a Sigma.)

On my Right: Bazooka #2 this guy looked at me like WTF is that tiny lens? ( 7D with 70-200 L)

My DFA100WR also got a turn : https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/lens-clubs/87882-d-fa-weather-resistant-c...ml#post1522321

lol! ignorance must be bliss :P

i think you've managed some great shots given the weather/light... oh, and of course that you were using just a plain old 70 to get them!

Musician Portrait Shoot

I've shot most of my fellow jazz musicians in the area, and most of them know my work, Occasionally I am asked to shoot some particular gig, and we usually work out some sort of trade. Every once in a while, someone will ask me to do posed promo shots. Not my specialty, but what the heck. Today I did a session with a husband/wife pianist/singer that wanted some "staged" shots for use as promo, but we also took a few for themselves as a couple.

The husband also runs a recording studio, so we used his space. The black curtain he normally uses for sound dampening served as our backdrop. I brought a cheap hardware-store clip-on shop light which we attached to a music stand. A mic stand held my collapsible diffuser. Space was tight, so we were forced to use unusually short lenses. Even though I'm not really used to this mode of working, I think we got some nice stuff, and we all had fun.

First two are DA40, last one DA15 (!).

Great auto racing and jazz photos!

Marc, that pianist looks really familiar - who is that?

Thanks! The pianist is Jeff Jenkins. Plays all around Colorado; you may well have seen him somewhere.

Jessica

I'm new to this club. Just about a month ago I got a DA-70 and so far I love it. I did a shoot of my friends daughter, and I'm amazed how well this lens works. Here's one of the many shots I got. Best part is most of them were keepers.
