I have the 21, 40 and 70. I absolutely love the 40 and the 70, haven't quite wrapped my head around the 21 yet. I don't think I ever will!

Some shots:

21mm

40mm

70mm

I think you are right. I rushed the PP on that a little and over did it. I may try processing that one again as I like the image otherwise. Thanks for the constructive criticism.

I've replaced the file on Flickr with one that's not so overdone! Hit refresh if it doesn't look different. I think it's better. They sky is already very blue!

I just finished a thruhike of the Appalachian Trail, and purchased a pentax K-7 to accompany me. I snagged the 35mm DA Limited to go with it, and well, it's the sole lens I own.

You can see all the photos I've processed at Picasa Web Albums - chris.wilhelm (all of the Appalachian Trail albums were shot with the 35 DA Limited), but here are some random selections:
I would challenge anyone to come up with a better lens/camera combo for hiking the AT- good job.

Excellent shots there, all of them. I just have to get myself a DA ltd so I can contribute to this thread

Congratulations on an amazing achievement. I went through some of the Picasa albums--lots of very nice pics in there. I was surprised to not find a Knife's Edge pic in with the other Katahdin massif shots though. Finishing in the state of Maine is the way to do it--much of the AT is mind bogglingly beautiful but, IMO, Maine is extraordinary: Bigelow Preserve--Baxter SP. Your mind must be saturated with the mystical calm such hiking brings. Best!

Hello,

Don't you consider the 15 limited for landscape or do you find the 21 better suited?

DA 21 or DA 15

I see those wonderful pictures taken with the 21. I wonder what the 15 could add to them.

Any advise as I am about to make a choice.

it depends on your style. I usually use the DA21 as my widest lens, also for landscapes, and I hardly ever long for anything wider. Others feel the smaller length of the DA15 is ideal. if it's the only lens you'd bring, i'd go for the DA21, as you can crop your images to get a bit of a 'normal' view, and you could stitch panoramas if you like. If you're also bringing a longer lens (maybe a 50), perhaps the 15 would be better, as you could crop pictures from the 15 to about the 21 FOV and you sort of have both, and things (much) longer are covered with your other lens.

If you like shooting with the sun in the frame, get the 15. It renders point light sources like no other I've seen. I often purposely try to keep the sun in frame whenever I can with this lens.

Not to say the 21 is a slouch when it comes to bright lights, given the pictures I've seen, but the 15 really is something special.

I already have a DA35 macro ltd as basic lens for my K10. I am just wondering if the 21 is not to close. On the other hand, the 21 might become the basic on my body and then what about the 35! I chose the 35 because of the macro possibilities on a standard lens

I used to want a super long (70-100 mm lens) but after looking at all these wonderful pictures (it took me a LONG time to read this thread, and every page was worth it ), I really think I "need" the DA 15 over the DA 21 or 70. I get really bothered with the IQ of my kit lens at 18mm, especially when I compare it to the IQ of one of my primes.

What do yo u think of this line-up for the bag?

DA 15 4.0, A 28 2.8, K55 1.8

Do you think the DA 21 will be too similar to the 28?

@*******: I think the 15 and 35 would be a much better combo than a 21 and 35. The difference between 21 and 35 is noticable enough, but if you want to travel light, you don't really need both (I always leave my A35/2 home when I'm packing the 21). If you like the 35, there's no reason to get a competing lens when you can also get a complementing one.

@paperbag: same story, and I think 15/28/55 would make a great kit. 21 and 28 is really quite close if you're thinking in 3 primes.

In my experience, the 21mm will not be wide enough. I also shoot with a 28, and while they are totally different fls, if you want something properly wide the 21 might not be enough. Your best bet is sticking your kit lens on and setting it to 21, and seeing how you like it.
