Been playing with some new Cactus v5s with my cobbled together strobist equipment. Here is a still life of various old stuff I have laying around made to resemble a scene from the early 1900s. Taken with DA35 Ltd on K5 and processed allot in Aperture 3 and ColorEfexPro4 for effect. Passable?

It's nice but I can see halos from the processing when there's a dark object on a light background. Like the key or the little statue.
It might look pretty realistic as a sepia or some other old looking treatment IMO.

Matt I hadn't noticed those halos, but you are right they were there, I have reprocessed and I used a less high key effect. It is a more natural look, though a bit darker and the halos have gone. Appreciate the constructive comment as it is the best way for me to learn.

Sometimes I like revisiting old images with a new, more experienced eye. The photograph was just a rush snap job in poor light with the 35Ltd, but this scene put a serious smile on my face when I came across it two and a half years ago deep in the forests of Virginia.

It always amazes me the slight changes you can make to improve the look of an image. This was my best effort editing the same shot two years ago:

The differences are subtle and small, yet I can't help but feel I must now revisit other old images to make them more effective. A more thoughtful crop, local white balance finessing, deliberate and careful use of vignetting, tonal adjustments... The things you pick up after spending enough time behind LR and your plugins.

Agree v5planet I often will revisit my older shots and redo them with new skills and plug-ins. Also interesting I notice I am usually quicker at editing them, fortunately.

Sage,

Thank you, what makes her more angelic (besides her name Angel) is her voice, she's a Miss Saigon cast applicant.

Our lower altitude trails are still dry and riding well, much to the chagrin of eager skiers!
