It sounds like a good time, no doubt.

The company he was working for is imploding and he was given the option to lay off his support staff (one person) or take severance. He & his girlfriend had been saving up to go on the trip anyway, so the job situation was the tipping point.

He's got an Olympus camera with him--I hope he takes some cool shots.

Doing the same myself. Not the job quiting. But, of course, building out the can will take a year or so, and my contract is up Dec 31st 2017...so, let the chips fall where they may.

Hey, welcome back!
Serendipity works.... Good for your photos too. Not so much for the bank balance, but hey.

Ah, good for everything. Bank accounts are great, but you if you die with something more than you needed in them, you should have done more with life. Right now my life is work week and a weekend, which is longer than most folks (3 days vs 2, don't cry for me). But there is only so much time to do things. Photography has taken a back burner for the last 3-4 years. If every day was a weekend day, I'd have 4 extra days to spend doing stuff I love. Which means photography would get a slice of that time.

I'm trying to do the business travel and photography thing - sometimes it works, sometimes not. I'm trying to figure out why I (now) live on a continent that I can drive to the Atlantic, or the Pacific, and haven't yet driven to either.....

Out of curiosity, what made you gravitate toward the 40 instead of the 35 Macro?

funny thing - my intention was to buy a decent 28mm (maybe 30mm) lens and maybe a DA 40XS... best laid plans and all...

I ended up buying a DA 35 (not Macro) and the 40 Limited because of pricing - I landed a nice deal on eBay for the 40 and KEH had a nice used 35 for a good price....

additionally, while shooting with different zooms, I try to be aware of the perspective at certain focal lengths and I've always liked the view of 40mm... so here I am...
