As you said, versatile indeed. One of my personally most-used lenses.
I think people tend to pigeon-hole any lens with "macro" in it's name as a purely macro lens but I rarely use mine for true macro and I'd say that it's the most flexible lens that I own, good for just about any type of photography, possibly along with the Fujinon 35/1.4 which gains two stops but lacks macro.
It's very easy to get used to essentially not having a minimum focus distance on a normal lens like the 35mm limited, so much so that when I'm using another lens I might get a little frustrated when I'm unable to close-focus on something.
