I definitely recognize some familiar sights, there. I've only had my DA15 since the beginning of the year and used it for interior shots, but I've been very impressed. It has a very snappy rendition.

Wow, I've missed this thread somehow, and spent the last hour taking it in. Great images in here! I have a DA21 and a DA35, and may be getting the 15 soon. Although, I also want the 40. And the 70. *sigh*
Here's my sister's cat with the DA35, hand held @ ISO400, wide-open, 1/10 sec on a K20.

Great shot of the cat Dave, and great performance from the DA 35 Ltd.

My DA70 doesn't find its way onto the camera as often as it should, but I do think it's probably my best lens overall. Here's a shot from this past weekened:

35 and 15

DA15mm Limited

Only taken a few test shots with it. Nothing to write home about in the way of photos but Here they are..

The DA35mm Limited is pretty much my walkaround lens. Here's a few from Louisville Kentucky last summer.

You can visit the rest here...

Here's one a little closer to home.. A prime example of what do we do with it..

The Michigan Central Railroad station. Standing since the early 1900s after the original one burned down in another location closer to the Detroit river (Right on it's shore as a matter of fact). Amtrak closed it down in the early 1980s where it has stood to have everything that once made it great, pillaged, broken, and used as a huge crack den and everything else imaginable. There is nothing left of the roof which means the interior is completely destroyed. Now it's just this big hulking reminder of what once was and now Is the city of Detroit, Michigan.

Thanks! Yes, it's a shame.. I expect within the next several years they'll turn this place into a pile of rubble, then a fenced in piece of weed bearing property. They'll call it a park which in the D, is an absolute joke.

I really REALLY want to join this club, but need some guidance. I just upgraded my K100D to a K7 and want to add some Pentax prime glass to the lineup.

I am desiring a relatively fast, lighter, walkaround lens for a more normal POV - something that will work allaround for chasing my kids, snapping the environment, and also getting some group shops (both indoor and out).

I have and love the Tamron 24-75 F2.8, but I want something smaller/lighter. I also have and love the FA50 1.4, but its a bit too long. I am thinking of these options and would like to stay within $500 US budget range (if possible)

FA35 -- probably first choice, but seems very very hard to find -- any leads?
DA40 -- I like what I see here, but I wonder if it is too close to my FA50?
DA35 macro -- seems pretty interesting, but people have widely different opinions on if good for general photography?
DA21 -- probably too wide?

Any strong opinions?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

I'll take a crack at some help. I own 3 of the 4 lenses you are considering, plus the Tamron 28-75 and FA 50/1.4 you reference. The Tamron 28-75 is my go-to lens for walkabout, but I do love my primes as well.

FA 35 is awesome, but yes, it is virtually impossible to find anymore in the US. Too bad, as it is a great lens and probably perfect for what you want, and I am sure you know its attributes. Quick AF is a plus.

DA 40 is a good walkaround lens, due to its size and weight, and excellent colors and sharpness. Yes, it is longer than the 35mm lenses, but it is noticeably more usable in my opinion as a walkaround lens than any 50mm prime. Still maybe a bit too long for a general walkaround lens, but still worth consideration. Quick AF is a plus.

DA 35 Macro is an amazing walkaround lens, but it is not at its best in "chasing kids". The AF can sometimes take a bit to lock in, so shooting kids is not its strongest point. The DA 35 excels at being able to shoot your family, then shoot a landscape shot, then walk up to a flower and/or bug and get an outstanding macro shot. Colors and sharpness are outstanding.

I don't own the DA 21, but while I presume it can work as a walkaround lens, it would be too wide for my purposes.

Hope this helps.

You should consider putting this one in the urban decay thread. That's an impressive structure.

I shoot almost exclusively with the DA21... I love the ability to include a sense of environment/setting when shooting portraits. Also, this lens is my favorite for street photography. Check out the blog listed in my signature to see some examples of shots taken with the DA21. Everything from 200-229 was taken with the DA21.

Hey guys. I wanted to share a couple of shots I capture at the Houston Auto Show the other day. I've got tons more, but these were my favorites.

All with the DA 21mm:

thank you Jeffrey r and javarob75 for your feedback. I may just order both a DA40 and DA21 and will pick the one I like best and return the other!
