its about time this thread got moving a little. great shots mtux. the M135/3.5 is a great lens. were these shots handheld? at the moment ive only got my 55-300 to pair with the DCR-150. however im thinking in purchasing the meyer optik 135mm f2.8 (or the super tak 135/3.5) in m42 mount. im assuming i wont have any problems pairing either of those with the raynox right?
Thanks.
Yes, all of them shot handheld, with on camera flash.
I guess you would be better served with the DA55-300, because then you can adjust the magnification with changing the zoom, but with a prime lens you can't!
And having a manual lens, if you want to use the on camera flash, like I did, you have no control on it's output, so you have to close down the aperture and ISO, which is another limitation I think.
I'm going to try the DCR-150 on my DA55-300 during this weekend to see how it will work with that. I will eventually end up trying it on all of my lenses. LOL.

yeah thats the advantage of using the zoom actually. ive never used the on camera flash for any macro work, or for anything else i suppose lol. i usually have my Yongnuo speedlight on the camera side with an L-bracket and that works great.
by looking at your sig, only the 55-300 will work. the 18-135 produces a lot of vignetting with the raynox. using the DCR-150 with a focal length below 70mm wont give you much magnification anyway.

Shots from this morning:
M135/3.5 again

And this was shot with DA 55-300 at 300mm and MFD, it should be around 2:1 macro!

Haven't posted to this thread in a while, even though many of the shots I've posted in other threads have been using a Raynox... So, here are two shots previously posted in other threads in which I used a DCR-250, and then two shots using my brand new MSN-202 - a very powerful diopter! (Apologies if you've seen some of these before!)

I love seeing the compound eyes of insects up close so much that you can make out each little piece. Awesome.

Thanks, my lighting on these shots were really simple:
On camera flash (At full power because of using an M lens) + one of these cheap simple diffusers, I guess a better/bigger diffuser could be even more effective, but this works for me now, and it's easy to have it in bag.

Thanks audiobomber! In these shots I'm using an off-camera Yongnuo YN-560 III. Basically the flash sits horizontally above the camera, and is fitted with a cheap (Chinese) 4"x5" flash diffuser. The toughest part was finding a decent flash bracket to get the flash horizontal, as the first one I got was not strong enough to hold the YN-560 securely - the flash would start to swivel. I'm using this one now, and am very happy with it. I typically shoot somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 power and try to stay at or below iso 400. The flash is usually set to 24mm (its widest setting) and I also use the built-in diffuser to reduce the appearance of a hot-spot in the external diffuser. The aperture I can then use is somewhat dependent on the brightness of the lens combo and the reflexivity of the surfaces around the critter I am shooting. The whole set-up looks a little like this photo, except I'm no longer using the L-bracket, so the flash bracket and flash now sit directly on the wireless transmitter. I found that I prefer that the light come from straight above and in front rather than from an angle. Hope this explanation makes sense...?

got out the raynox and the 55-300 after some time.saw this little fella on the balcony and managed to bring him inside in a plastic tub since it was quite windy outside to take pictures. shots were handheld with an external flash.
Let the little guy outside again once the photoshoot was over. they seriously love posing

Nice shots, but I hate to tell you he wasn't posing. He was trying to figure out how to eat you.
