It's great value for money and works particularly well on macro lenses, giving them a nice bump in magnification, without the penalty in light that extension would levy.

I would use a Raynox 250 on the K-1 with Pentax DFA100 macro lens for more magnification. I want to use it with the Pentax AF160 ringflash. The Raynox will have to be removed from its snap on lens adapter. So I need a 52-43 stepdown ring ring to screw the Raynox directly into the macro lens. The front of the Raynox is 49mm so the ringflash will fit using its 49mm adapter. Is this Raynox info correct?

The other question involves using this on a Pentax 645Z and Pentax 120 macro lens. The macro has a 67mm filter size. The ring flash tops out at 58mm, but comes with an adpater that works fine with the 120 macro. Don't see any vignetting. Question is, has anyone used a 43mm Raynox on a 67mm lens? If so does it work and is there vignetting?

Thanks,
barondla

Those numbers sound right.

Not an exact answer to your query, but I do get heavy vignetting with the Raynox DCR-150 attached to my DA 17-70, which takes 67mm filters.

Cross posted in the Macro by any means necessary club:

I just ordered this possible Raynox 250 substitue 125mm focal length achromat from Surplus Shed (in which I have no interest, in or benefit from). It's the same focal length and seems to be about the same size. The motivation behind getting this was seeing this wide angle macro rig by Nicky Bay which uses two Raynox 250s. I've already got one, but if I can get a reasonable substitute for a second at US$8 instead of US$70, why not? If it doesn't work, I'm not out that much; if it does, bonus!

CORRECTION: On looking more closely at Nicky Bay's gear list for his fish-eye macro rig, it would appear that he's using a Raynox 250 and a 150, rather than two 250s.

Let us know how it works out, please.

I shall. I still have to get the M12 fish-eye board lens to hang on the front. I've got a 6mm cine lens and a Q 03 3.2mm fisheye I can try, though they won't be quite as wide as 1.8 and 2.1mm lenses I've seen used in these rigs. I'm looking forward to playing!

Hmm, the 120 macro is about 100mm eq. on FF. Thats longer than your 70, if you are using a FF body. So it may not vignette on the 645. However it matches your setup if an APS-c camera is being used. Either way I'll probably get the Raynox 250 for the K-1.

Can't wait to see your images and the rig that you settle upon. Relay lens photos look awesome. I have a fuji fisheye lens out of a security camera. It's C mount and larger than the lenses shown in most videos. It is 2.7mm F1.8 and very sharp. I need to rig it up and experiment. Just what I need, another project.

Thanks,
barondla

Have the Raynox 150 & 250 on order. Also ordered the adapter ring to stack them. This should be interesting.
Thanks,

Looking forward to your results stacking the Raynoxes - I never considered doing that. I have only the 150, but like it a bunch...

Johan at Extreme Macro is a proponent of stacked Raynoxes: Cheap extreme macro magnification with achromat close up lenses

Great shots! What host lens did you have the 150 on? Whatever it is, it plays well with the additional optic in front. I've only got the 250 at the moment, but I'll probably add a 150 to my collection eventually, if a good deal comes up.

Thanks for the link - good stuff for me to check out!

The host lens was Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 90mm f/2.5 (52B/52BB) Lens Reviews - Tamron Adaptall Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
(Mine's the 52BB)

I bought my first DCR-150 almost 15 years ago, for use with a Fuji S6500fd . I sold it when I got into DSLR (K100D), then eventually bought another, lost that one a couple years ago, so now I'm on copy #3. IMO it is a must-have for any photography enthusiast.

I've got the 52BB too, and the 250 works very well on it as well. I'm awaiting delivery on a Tamron 90mm f2.8 72B macro (Manual focus, Adaptall precursor of the X72X AF Tamrons), so I'm looking forward to trying the Raynox 250 on it.

I'm also slowly accumulating bits and pieces to replicate this set-up for W/A macro: Twitter At this point about the only thing I'm still missing is the wide angle M12 board lens to stick on the front.

Nice work with the 52BB. I, too, subsequently bought a newer version - in my case, the 272E. Not sure I like it better than the 52BB, though. Maybe it's just because I'm an Adaptall fan.

I don't think I'm extreme enough to cobble together what you're working on! Looking forward to your results, though.
