I'm tired of barely being able to focus with my 1.2.

For those of you who've changed focusing screens, particularly if you've tried both the plain matte EES screen from Focusingscreens.com and the Katzeye screens, can you let me know which you prefer for focusing at f1.2?

I use EE-S, but I can't say I like it much. Nikon's (f3?) from focusingscreen.com is almost as good, if not better (I have it at the old camera). Never tried katzeye's. However, I recall, that after upgrading the stock K5 screen, the difference was very noticeable.

Also the problem with EE-S screen, that it is too dark at f5.6 that may be a problem with long telephoto lenses.

P.S. You can always use LiveView

Thanks. I've been using liveview, but without putting it on a tripod, once I'm zoomed in to 4x or higher to check, it's a pain to keep the camera steady to focus.

I decided to try out the EE-S screen, because I don't always focus dead center, and using the katzeye kinda requires that… and it seems like at 1.2, focusing center then moving the camera is likely to put the subject back out of focus.

Pentax-K 50mm f/1.2 @ f/1.2.

LR 5.2 doing a good job of removing purple fringing. The RAW file was stuffed full of PF. This is a fairly tight crop too.

Trotted the Porst 55mm f1.2 out tonight for a bit. All of these are taken from across a restaurant table -- almost at minimum focusing distance. Used LiveView to get better focus. New focusing screen should arrive soon, I hope.

I also use the ee-s focusing screen plus recently I got the o-me 53 magnifying eyecup which helps a bit. I consider both of them a marginal help but for the most your eyes have to be able to do the job plus It is crucial to nail the shims with the focusing screen.

As high as IQ comes out from this lens, the longer I use this lens,
the more I'd say that K50/1.2 is not used for its IQ. i.e. this lens is not for peepers.

It is more of a "Le Masteripece" lens, used for the sake of its specialty.
