Porst 1.2 photos

Please share with me your thinking, strategy, or photographic philosophy behind all these dark, unfocussed Porst f 1.2 photos you are posting. I am not being nasty, just curious, so maybe I can start making that kind of photo with my f 1.2 lenses. :>)

my goal with this type of photo is to capture the sunset, from a lower perspective, but focusing on the grass itself...

there is a challenge, for me, in this type of shot in that I have to get low enough for the perspective (no tiltscreen) and still be able to see/focus, especially since this is a manual lens, while also keeping exposure in mind (green button metering, wide open aperture)...

it's easy to get a completely blown-out shot with this, so there is some experimenting, re-shooting, etc - so the trick is to get low enough for enough grass to shadow the sun, while still maintaining some focus on the grass to give the shot some atmosphere and something for the eye to grab onto...

for me, this is as emotive as a full-on sunset over a field, lake, city-scape, etc.... and with the right lens, the bokeh becomes almost wet, as if the light were running down the shot...

Interesting . . . now I can appreciate what you are seeking to accomplish.

thank you... I normally only shoot this with manual-focus, because AF throws my perspective off and will capture whatever it grabs, whereas I want what I want in the shot...

I am the same way about auto-focus. For general photography, including landscape, AF can be handy, certainly as a first approximation. For macro, closeup flowers, and portraiture I much prefer to use manual focus entirely. The problem with MF using many modern lenses is that they were not really designed for easy manual focus--too short throw to focus, overly loose focussing ring, etc.

exactly - in the few years I've been using DSLR's & lenses, I've learned so much about AF vs MF and the huge difference in modern lenses focusing rings vs 'film-era' lenses....

Porst Auto Color Reflex 55mm f1.2 plus de-glassed Macro converter on K1

Almost nothing in focus, plenty of fringing, low contrast - not what you might want from a macro shot, but I quite like it:

Been absent a bit so here's an offering of the Angιnieux 50/1.2 (16mm cinema projection lens mounted in M42 extension tube set) on the K-1 ... I need to shoot a lot of my projection lenses with the K-1 to see if there is any difference and/or improvements on a full frame sensor. (xpost from Projector Lens thread)
