Really cheap (free) lenses

Years ago my brother gave me a Pentax SF-10 with a 28-80mm and 70-200mm Takumar lenses. That makes for really cheap lenses. Recently purchased a used K3 and trying to figure out how it works, not easy for an old guy who has been away from serious photograpphy for many years. The old SF-10 was pretty simple, and took very good photos. These taken with the 28-80mm on the K3.

Crappy cold & gray days delayed me testing my excellent looking Promaster AF Aspherical f/3.5-5.6 28-80mm picked up a few months ago. I'm finally getting around to it, taking it out on my Pentax K-R set at iso 100.

Could it be the same as the similar Tamron model, despite different country of manufacture? Or what does it mean that mine and some others show in the exif data as an SMC Pentax-FA 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 AL?

These shots are all taken at or near wide-open aperture.

80mm, f/5.6, 1/500, focus on barn/infinity:

28mm, f/3.5, 1/1000, focus on wooden post:

28mm, f/3.5, 1/1000, focus on hanging door rail hardware at center of frame:

With paulh's post, that makes this thread over 10 years old! So much has changed since then. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of bodies used in the later posts are different from the early ones. The lenses seem to be changing too!

Thank you everyone that has posted over the years! I really look forward to seeing what gets in the future.

I just realized that I no longer own a lens that fits this category, which is something I need to fix promptly. Maybe it is time for some new images from me!

I no longer have mine (Quantaray 28-90) either. It was passed down to my wife, and then it just vanished My DSLR photography started with that lens, and I have many happy memories of those days. I have an F35-80 that kind of replaces it, but yes, maybe time for another!
