The Quantaray 28-90 Macro is just a very nice lens that doesn't cost much at all.

I just won a Quantaray 28-80 for ten bucks. Should I expect it to be anywhere near the 28-90 in IQ? And I'll see how it compares to my Promaster 28-70 and F35-70, also about ten bucks each.

Oh yeah, I got the Quantaray for a specific purpose (and not to compete here!) -- to mount my Kenko 180 Degree Fisheye adapter. At around 40mm it delivers a full-circle image; at around 60mm it's frame-filling; and beyond 60mm, it's fun to play with the fishy projections. A 35-90 or 35-105 would be even better, but I haven't found any of those cheap enough yet. Oh bother.

There is a post in this thread that compares the two directly. The take away for me from it was - no, the 28-90 is significantly better in most regards. The 28-90 appears to have more app blades, is multi-coated, etc. where the 28-80 has 1 fewer blades and the coating is not as complex when looked at side-by-side. Additionally the element construction is different if you look at the placement of the front element and the 28-90 is 1:1.

Oh bother. At least it's cheap. So, my quest continues...

That Tamron & your dog are looking good, Rick. Here's a Quantaray 28-90 shot from last fall:

As of today, *my* duck goes by "The Duck" , until everyone can agree on something else. So far she's handling the unrelenting heat just fine. It helps having a pool, even though she doesn't spend that much time in there. We originally thought about releasing her to the pond photographed in my post above. But after discovering she's really a domestic duck, that's not an option anymore. We might try to donate her to a zoo of some kind - we'll see how it goes....

Tamron 28-80

This is fast becoming my go to everyday lens... I really like the "soft/smooth sharpness" rendered

Good one, Rick Are we keeping this thread afloat, or what?
Finally...some rain. This is the first substantial rain for us since June!
