Thanks for your reply Piotr. I have just traded my FA* 28-70/2.8 for an elmarit 60mm macro and summicron 90mm both in good order. This case of LBA arose from looking at the great results you have produced from these lenses.

I hope to participate in this thread regularly once the lenses arrive if you'll all be nice.

Cheers,
Sam

Nice birds xjjohnno.

Here is one of my first efforts with the emarit 60mm macro. I become more impressed with this lens everytime I use it.

Nice pic, Sam. The expression and the skin tones against the grass are great! Needs a bit more practice with manual focus. Have you thought of investing in a split circle focusing screen? I find that it helps me a fair bit to get the pic in focus.

Hmm I thought it was just me but it seems like the Leica glass has some hand in how truely it depicts skin tones. That's the number one thing I noticed on the 28mm.

If anyone is interested Erwin Puts is currently printing his "Leica Compendium" which looks like a very professional and comprehensive historical account of the Leica business and individual reviews on their lenses. Cost is 62.50 Euros plus shipping and I think he is only doing one print run of which a fair proportion has already been sold so better get in quick if interested.

More info can be found on his website here: Blog
If you send him an email through his website he'll give you the costing and how to pay.

Cheers

"There are five mount variations that you only need to concern yourself with when matching a lens to a Leica camera: one-cam, two-cam, three-cam, R-only and ROM. None of these matter for Pentax cameras, since the mount is going to be replaced anyway."

Initial Review Of The Leica 60mm f/2.8 Macro-Elmarit-R now posted. All I can say is "wow!" Though in fact I say quite a bit more, and present a series of test shots.

I have published a second article, Sample Shots With Leica 60mm f/2.8 Macro-Elmarit-R but thought I'd give some further examples here.

This one is cropped severely and shows how much detail in left in even a part of the frame. It's been heavily colour processed.

smoke and transport

Again, the lens renders nice textures and there is plenty of detail one can bring out of a shot. I have applied one of my "secret" methods here so don't quite expect this out of camera.

And the bounty of riches continues with Further Tests Of The Leica 60mm f/2.8 Macro-Elmarit-R.

I sure wish there were other Leica lenses worth trying at affordable prices. This one seems to be unusual in that it is both excellent and reasonable.
