Some nice pics in this thread peeps. I recently obtained a K-1 for the primary purpose of using Leica lenses on, here’s a few from a recent walk on a nearby beach with the Elmarit 35mm:

The light was quite flat and doesn’t do the lens justice, I’ll try to get some with a bit more colour next time too.

Thanks Gedeon, I like the swirly stuff in the pink flower pic. I had an old Summarit 50/1.5 I used to play around with when dabbling with rangefinder gear - that baby really swirled!!!

Here's the 3 Leica lenses I've purchased and adapted so far. In a few weeks I will be posting Springtime photos that I will take with them. Right now, snow snow snow and little chance to get out and shoot.

Love the summilux 80mm, I had one a couple of years ago but didn’t use the focal length enough to justify owning it.

Teiki, thanks for posting. I have read that the 60/2.8 is super sharp. Do you still have this lens? What in particular do you like about it?

I am in the process of filming an on-line training program. I've set up a little studio in my home to make the videos.

I'm using my Pentax K1 and 50mm lenses. The first lenses I tried were my Leica R Summicron 50/2 and my Zeiss Milvus 50/1.4 lenses. I've read so much about the cinematic quality of Leica lenses that when comparing multiple videos taken with each of these two lenses I fully expected to like the look of the Leica lens better. However, there was no comparision, with the Zeiss lens having much better: sharpness, contrast and even color. So, for these massive video projects that I'm working on I'll be using my Zeiss Milvus 50/1.4 lens.

Maybe this comparison was not fair, after all, the Zeiss cost me 3 times more than I paid for the Leica lens; and the Zeiss is a much newer design. Maybe if I had used a more modern/expensive Leica lens the outcome would have been different?

This of course does not mean that I no longer like my 3 Leica lenses. In fact I just yesterday purchased a fourth Leica lens (180/2.8 second version). But in the future, I'll probably just be using my Leicas for still photography.

Leica lenses are not about sharpness actually (except new ones as Elmarit-R 28/2.8 (II), Apo-Asph-90/2, Summilux-R 50/1.4 E60, Apo-Telyt 280/2.8 modular...) but about rendition, colors and grey scale... The 60/2.8 is very special (last version triple coated is more contrasted), unique in rendition as Apo-Macro-Elmarit-R 100/2.8 is...

Leica Summicron-R 50/2 is more than 40 years old Gauss formula, and of course is less good than the new ones. But I prefer it over Sigma ART 50/1.4 for convenience and grey scale....

There is something about a Leica lens, I really don't know what it is but it has a quality all of its own.

Thats a very nice range of Leica lenses, may I enquire how you converted them, I see that you have complemented them with a 180 recently.

R Lenses with Kodak 5222 & Diafine

This is the first time I have posted in this group. I just started two related projects. The first part of this involves converting all of my 8 Leica R lenses to Pentax K mount. I want to be able to shoot film, and digital with a optical view finder camera using the same lenses. Since Leica dropped the R optical finder with digital, I decided to convert all of my R lenses to the Pentax K mount. That way I shoot with a K1000 for film and a K1 for digital.
The second part of the project was to find a film that works well with Diafine. I just finished up a series of test shots with Kodak 5222 and my R 50mm f/1.4 Summilux. (It was still on the R6 at the time.)
The two shots are one full frame, and the second is a 8x10 section from the full frame. It seems like the 5222 has very small grain.
Just thought I would pass this along to the group.
Steve
