I've read good things about the R 90/2, including that it approximated the legendary R 80/1.4 for bokeh and glow. The author of
this article on the "Leica glow" highly praised the R90/2 when he said, "Summicron 90mm f/2 Pre-ASPH is the most subtle, and it glows only wide-open. The glow is complemented by a beautiful bokeh and high micro-contrast. Arguably, this lens has the most iconic “Leica look” signature." Alright then!
Toward my tastes were also the advantages of the R90/2 being much smaller/lighter and half the price of the R80/1.4. So when I finally got a late model R90/2 all Leitaxed and ready to go yesterday afternoon, I ran out to take a test shot hoping it would live up to expectations. I need to use it more, but the first shot at F2 was encouraging:
