Hi everybody. I'm new to dslr and recently bought a K-r with 18-55 dal kit lens. I discovered that the camera (or lens) was not sharp enough so I had to fine adjust the kit lens +5 mm using a focusing chart, since it was back focusing. We're going to travel to New England in September and I would like to buy a wide angle zoom that would best focus on my K-r. I'm considering now the da 12-24 or sigma 10-20. What would be your best objective advice regarding this dilemma, anyone here that also shoots with K-r perhaps ? Any advice would be gladly appreciated. Thanks a lot, seb.

My 10-20 F3.5 EX DC is sitting on my desk, waiting for me to go home and play with it.

I must say that it is very well packaged with the carrying case. Very impressed.

I have been shooting with 10-20 F3.5 for a month now and I must say itīs now my favorite lens by far . Really happy with its performance as a walkaround lens, really versatile! Sharp at center wide open and from corner to corner @F9.

I just came home from a 10 day UK trip and from 1500 shots a thousand was taken with this lens!

Couldn't resist any more, got my 10-20 today. My little walkabout didn't result in anything that can stand up to what people are posting in this thread, but I'll contribute anyway I love the width of this thing!

Yeah, this was my test; I took the middle exposure from the K-5 bracket and adjusted it, and got it to look *exactly* like this. I'm not sure that will work in bright sunlight, but it certainly does in situations like this, where you're reaching for shadow detail.
I never try HDR since I think Pentax DR in RAW mode quite impressive especially K5.. but looking @ HDR shots here I feel like I have to try it sometime

I think any AF lens with K mount will focus on your Kr ( I have a Kx and Sigma 10-20 focus just fine with it), regarding IQ etc why don't you look around in this lens club forum, there's DA 12-24 club too I think, look there and decide what lens suit you best ( I assume you have been here quite a while).

Do you have circular polarizer? That will make the colors more vibrant.

I do agree that photo is really nice

No, I don't have a 77mm polariser yet, but I might have to get one. I think it build prove more useful on this lens than on most others.

But then, I really like the colours from this lens as it is. And I'm not sure I have the patience to make proper use of a CP anyway

I know what you mean! I have the F3.5, which is an expensive 82mm. I got myself a UV and a PL filter and that was like buying a lens as well in terms of price. And then the additional investment of learning to use the PL filter. You got good colors already though.

Thanks! Yes indeed easy to love, and it's not so hard to use once you realize you have to go close. Closer still. No, even closer!

From the 14 pointed star around the sun I would think Pen-A has a f/3.5? But even the f/4-5.6 isn't too bad, I think.

Having shot with that very lens for a couple of years I can tell you it is not typical. I was always impressed with how well the 10-20 4-5.6 controlled flare, particularly when you consider the focal range. I am not someone to compose a shot with the Sun as the subject, but never had problems with flare in my shooting with this lens. That does not mean it will not flare--you must be mindful with the composition.
