Actually, for 10mm and f/5.6 that would be 89cm, not 1m.
An Online DOF calculator can calculate the hyperfocal distance.
Does that "1m" means I have to stay away at least 1 meter away from my subject? I never thought that using UWA lenses are this confounding yet interesting

great images and thank you!

Took the new Mini Cooper for a little drive this afternoon after its bath. We went to Ice Harbor dam on the Snake River. It's about 10 miles from where the Snake dumps into the Columbia River.

This boulder covered with petroglyphs was originally on the river bank. When the dam was built (1955-1961) the boulder was moved to the bluff above the dam and dedicated to the Native American tribes that made the area their home.

These are among the few shots I took that the Cooper didn't sneak into. I swear, the thing is a worse photo hog than my V-Strom was & I didn't think that was possible.

First shot is the entrance to the boulder. This Corps of Engineers logo is set in the concrete. It sits between two low rock walls, hence the large shadow on the left. I just stuck the camera out at arms length and shot one @ 10mm. Got my feets and the shadow of my arm in there. Hate it when that happens!

Here's a wide view of the low wall surrounding the boulder and the boulder itself (also shot @ 10mm). The logo in the first shot is visible to the right of the wall.

And a closer shot showing the petroglyphs, this one @20mm.

no you donīt.
If you focus on 1m and use f stop 5,6 or smaller. Than you have to be roughly 0,5m from your subject to keep it in focus.

I'm amazed how close this lens lets you get to your target. A couple of night shots...

Closer to the subject, right. Thank you. I appreciate this, now I'll have to google hyperfocal and other stuff.

Hi everyone, good day!

I was wondering what the Sigma 10-20mm lens looks like together with the Pentax K-x... I've tried searching the web for photos, but couldn't really find any. I've found some with a K20 or a K7, though.

Would you guys know? Or perhaps can anyone post a shot or two of the Pentax K-x with the Sigma 10-20mm lens attached?

One of the reasons I bought this lens was to take these Spring trees. The photos have been PP for artistic reasons but I liked the view with the lens.

Yes, I really like this second one too. Show me an excellent shot @ UWA (in this case @ 10mm) and usually there is something in the immediate foreground. The amount of space is so fast @ 10mm, that the shooter must somehow find extra measures to re-define it. When done right, 10mm is awesome. The camera was held level too, minimizing distortion.

Sau, just my 2 cents worth: with an ND Grad you could avoid those blown highlights in the sky, bring definition to the clouds, and add more blue. This, I think, would add another +1 to an already excellent shot.

Playing with the 10-20 is far too much fun, you guys. I keep taking shots like this just because I can. That's just not right ETA: I don't know why this 1st pic isn't showing up, trying it a different way...

Okay, but then I've taken some that aren't about making your eyes cross, like this one. I quite like the way this turned out, even with the flare (it's one of only 2 flares I've gotten with the lens, but this one is appropriate to the photo):
