Rustnail925:Just a quick question..
How do you deal with the distortion of the lens? Do you guys use something for PP to minimize the distortion?
The lens' generates great shots leaving the distortion as is. In all my shooting with it, I believe there were 2 shots I tried working the distortion to my liking.

Very nice rainbow! Glad you got that shot.

Javier,

haven't heard much good about f3.5 version. I was thinking of getting it myself, but from what I have read/heard the older is better. f3.5 has heavy vignetting and corner sharpness is gone... Have a look at photozone.de, they tested it in Nikon F mount and if you look at the pictures they got, I think you'll be as disappointed as I was
Thanks a bunch axl. I did a little bit more research and it is not even close. It seems that the older one is indeed sharper.
I really could not spend the money on that lens anyway, so that too is a relief.

That is not a lens problem, it is a real-world problem. As you point up or down, the far subjects, such as the tops of buildings, must be smaller, and therefore lean in.

Just the opposite happens with a telephoto. It tends to makes things the same size because the subjects are relatively the same distance away. Nobody wonders about "fixing" telephoto "distortion", though.

Yes, this is a problem for all of us. Try to hold the camera level when shooting with this lens. Also, you need to be extra mindful of the viewfinder with this lens on: the slightest movement of the camera for compostion can have drastic effects on the final image. This is the fun of the lens--with a little practice you will get over this issue. Good luck.

If you want rectilinear wide angle with distortion correction whilst taking the shot, then it's over to tilt and shift lenses; I reallllllllly want the Canon EF TS-E 17mm on a full frame body, take a look at the group on Flickr:

Flickr: Canon TS-E 17mm f/4L

Those verticals are damn perfect (where used properly).

dear zappa2, something went not right with your nice pics... does the fuzzyness come from the internet publishing?

Nice pica of the boat!

Fuzzyness of my pics indeed is caused by the forums image size conversion.

How to upload to prevent the conversion?
