May I ask a stupid question? Because if I don't win another lens I'm bidding on, I want the 10-20 Sigma immediately.

Can I can get the 10-cent explanation on this one, and since my wife is a WalMart "career" woman, I get 10% off:

Walmart.com: Sigma 10-20mm Wide-angle zoom lens for Pentax Digital SLR Cameras #201109: Digital Cameras

I know there are two versions of this lens, but that doesn't mean I understand the difference between the two.

There are two versions of this lens: the 'old' version (f4-5.6) and the 'new' version (constant f3.5).

The new version is faster, and has HSM in Pentax mount, but is generally though of as less good optically than its elder cousin.

The older version is supposedly sharper, and I personally love mine. The older version is what is on offer in that Walmart listing (the aperture is hidden in the reams of data tables).

Thank you, sir!!!

I remember it had something to do with constant aperture, but when you get my age, you can't always trust your memory.

Or NEVER trust it!

The suggestion is to not focus at all but set the manually lens at "1 m". At 10mm and f/5.6 this means that everything from 47cm till infinity will be within the DOF, i.e., acceptably sharp.

Commonly referred to as "Hyper-focal distance". It gives you the widest range of in focus area.

Actually, for 10mm and f/5.6 that would be 89cm, not 1m.
An Online DOF calculator can calculate the hyperfocal distance.
