I just can't seem to lock onto focus at all with it when using autofocus. Just seems soft even stopped down at f/5.6. I have been happy with it when manually focusing at 1:1 magnification though.
it is most probably a decentering issue if you still get soft results at f5.6. the only time I had a softness issue is with the first copy that I got which had a misaligned mechanism that affected focus and almost broke my camera's AF mechanism.
So I got myself another one which was perfect even at f2.8.

I really don't know, Jeff. I have to order all camera gear by mail, but if I had the option, I'd go to a shop and try different filters. Look at the outermost portion of the lens element as you screw in the filter, and if you see the filter element touching, back off. It looked to me like a small oil sheen, and was very small. A more expensive UV might have better tolerances, or perhaps the lens threads are not uniform across the samples, because not everyone has noticed this propensity for filters to touch the lens.

Over the weekend I checked out a small pond which I showed here in December. The ice is melting, but isn't gone yet. Open pix in new window for enlargements.

Great shots, Tamia, with fine light and colours!
You really have a gift of finding lovely picture subjects.

Try again when you get a chance....just batch edited the photos and changed the privacy to "anyone" so hopefully it works.
Got'em--excellent real estate shots. I do not see any problems with distortions at all--did you PP, or avoid 10mm?

Nice! Love the way sky reflections, ice and under-water scenery all blend, especially on the 2nd shot, depending upon the light angles.

haha...oh no...there was quite a bit of distortion. I had to PP them to fix that. And I'm no professional so I may not have done a great job, but my boss was happy and he was the one paying for the shoot!

I like them fine with one exception. The shots of the bedrooms where so much ceiling is in view (and I'm guessing they may be on the second floor with shorter ceilings than downstairs as well). Those shots tend to make the ceilings look shorter and the room kind of squished down. Do you like my technical photo lingo there? ;-) Were those shots taken at full 10mm? I'm wondering if bumping up to tewlve on those smaller rooms would eliminate that effect? Any idea.

Wow....check out the crazy flare orb I got about mid-way on the bottom of this shot. it might be kinda hard to see, but it's kinda cool. Really don't know what specifically created it, and I don't think I've ever seen something like this before. it's very spherical. The shot is converted in lightroom, but otherwise straight out of the camera.

here is the shot edited a bit so you can see the flare a little easier:

I'm not quite sure I see it...but at the same time I've been in these rooms so maybe my perception of them is a bit skewed anyways. To me, I feel like the photos make the room look longer than they really are. for instance, in the following photo, you can see the doorway which looks so small which to me makes it seem like it's much further off in the distance than it actually is.

Maybe that's exactly what you are saying, though. lol

Scott, I like your interiors, and that orb flare is wild!

Ivor, great photos!

I discovered an extensive auto graveyard hidden in the woods. Only a couple of rusty old cars near the edge are visible from a store parking lot, but as I explored I found a lot more masked by the trees and a kind of natural wall. I only had about half an hour to explore, unfortunately. More in my "Post Your Photos" thread Field of Abandoned Dreams. [Cross-posted pix with Picture of the Week.]

IrishW: Your real estate shots are excellent--I can't imagine a prospective buyer being anything but awed by them. People buying homes are not going to be critical of the pictures: the home is their focus.

These are great--the smashed windshield is intriguing.
