I really don't know, Jeff. I have to order all camera gear by mail, but if I had the option, I'd go to a shop and try different filters. Look at the outermost portion of the lens element as you screw in the filter, and if you see the filter element touching, back off. It looked to me like a small oil sheen, and was very small. A more expensive UV might have better tolerances, or perhaps the lens threads are not uniform across the samples, because not everyone has noticed this propensity for filters to touch the lens.
