Hey thanks for the info. I think linear it is then because I am also buying a 2x teleconverter for the 2.8 sigma 70-200.
I don't know the whole story but check out this thread.

Love these seascapes James: you should be giving classes on them.

Thank you for that update on the doubler. I will continue to do some research. I really want the doubler so I can take pictures at the world cup games I'm going to this summer in Germany.

It works for me. It's the kind of shot I just can never pull off.
Nice.

That's a beautiful shot of a whole lot of nothing. And I don't mean that in a bad way. I lived on the prairie for a year when I was younger and I actually miss it quite a bit sometimes.

I second that.
This shot really conveys the vastness of the prarie - and the dramatic sky is great too.
Nice work.

Thanks to both of you.

It is a bit minimalist I know.

It's a landscape where if it were a tool we would say of it that form follows function. Very austere and direct with no conflicting visual cues - just the land and the sky and, sometimes, a splash of color here and there. It's a challenging landscape to really capture well.

For me it's a very mystical place. It makes me feel small but never insignificant.

This is tall grass prairie by the way not the high plains. Taken in south central Minnesota.

Gear head stuff:
This lens is, perhaps, the best lens I have for rendering the subtleties of color, hue and tone. Optically I don't what this quality is called but it's there. If had to guess I would say it probably has something to do with the lens coatings.
