Thanks JT. I had to work overtime for about a month so I could free myself to travel for a family reunion. I used my Sigma 10-20mm for almost all the photos I took while away, for everything from landscapes to family shots to about 500 from a few hours spent exploring an abandoned hospital. Here are a few window pictures from the hospital trip (more at Abandoned Hospital-Windows)

I recently got a Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 but was disappointed after testing it at home under controlled environment. Even at f8-11 and 16mm, it was distant from DA16-45 or DA*16-50 at the same apertures and focal lengths. May be my copy was unusual but at 10mm and f4, the images were absolutely useless, having tried it on two different bodies.

But I've been reading and watching this thread for a while enough to want to give it another shot so I've packed the lens to be shipped back to the vendor as soon as I get the Return Authorization. Hopefully I will get a better copy of the same lens or the HSM version, depending on what they say and what they have available.

No doubt you got a bum lens. Keep in mind this is a very popular mass produced lens, not merely for Pentax; but for Canon, Nikon, Sigma and Sony as well.

Yes, we must invest time with the family. Trouble for me is, inesting this time without a camera around my neck. You are one of the most talented shooters I've ever seen with this lens. You know how to work it creatively, with simple subjects.

Nice capture: horizon looks a little tilted to the right from where I sit today. No wine yet either

Thanks Jewelltrail, you are absolutely right it probably is tilted. I didn't even think about that. Or I could say it was my third beer. LOL

This thread has tons of great images. I'm really considering of getting the Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 as I don't need the extra speed on the f3.5 version.

I'm debating whether I should get the HSM or Non-HSM version.

Besides the obvious difference in the HSM is there any other major advantages going with the HSM version?

What is the average price difference between both versions?

I already went through Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM (AF Lens) Lens Reviews - Pentax Third-Party Lens Review Database and still can't find the definite answers.

As far as I am aware the Pentax version of the f4-5.6 does not come with HSM. That is only for other mounts. It certainly isnt listed as having HSM on Sigmas website.

Oh I see. Then PF has made a mistake by naming the review thread with HSM in it.

Have you used a WIDE angle lens before?
Don't wait until you're in Greece to get used to it.

Greece sounds nice. I am going over to Europe again in 2 weeks, maybe jet up to Finland for a quick visit to a friend.

Here is a pic of a night scene in Bangkok from my last stop over in January:

Early Photo from New (to me) Sigma 10-20mm

I recently got a Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 from a Pentax Forums member. I'm learning what I can do with the lens. Here is an early example of my use of the lens.

f/8, 1/750 sec, 200 ISO, 10mm, Pentax K20D

I've used the da 16-50, so have a little experience. do you think a graduated ND filter is indispensable for outdoorsy shots?
