My Sigma broke!

I know this "club" has been inactive for quite a while, but I've got a problem and wonder if others have seen it too.

My Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 worked perfectly until it suddenly stopped allowing the focus to go closer than the 3 foot setting.
It feels like there's a hard stop there now.
The lens wasn't dropped or abused and there is no roughness... it just seems to have a stop around 3 feet.
It looks like focus is messed-up within its range too, so I'm wondering if this is a floating element off its track or somesuch...?

My lens is actually in Sony AF mount, but I think the Pentax mount one has the same focus mechanism.

As always, AMAZING work in this thread! I finally got out and had a chance to use mine the other day to shoot the sunset. Here's one of my favorites:

Sorry to hear you are having this problem. I've never experienced this with my Sigma, but long ago had a lens which had focusing problems because I had a bit of grit in the mechanism, picked up while shooting in the field. Is it possible that you got a piece of grit in the works that provides a stop?

You might want to post your query as a new thread in the Pentax SLR Lens Discussion to get a wider viewing and perhaps an answer. Good luck!

Hey there Tamia--I haven't been in the ADKs since Foliage time of last year, so this is a real treat for me--thank you! I probably will not make it up there again until this coming foliage season, so PLEASE keep posting when you can. I've always loved your work! Best!

JT
Thanks much, JT! Some shots from the 'Dacks for you below.

here's one at 16mm.

Riverbank
This is really beautiful. I love how the wet sand sheen and reflects the light.

For JT...

Touch-Me-Not Shot last year in May or June. The jewelweed flowers haven't emerged yet but when they do, they'll be brilliant orange dots in this field of green.

Two Puddles Got the focus off a bit on this one. Should have focused on the near puddle but I like the color contrast.

Lowlight Hillside Shot last fall late in the day.

Deadwood Pool I love that snag and how it reflects in the pool. Shot from the same spot as the previous picture, but excluding the hillside.

I should note that I didn't push the saturation on these photos. They're true to the colors I saw. The white on the rocks comes from dried out old algae that formed during spring runoff.

Some excellent images posted in here since my last visit, great work guys.

Re-acquainted myself with the Sigma 10-20 on a recent short break to Mallorca by making a few touristy panos...

Circular interior courtyard of Bellver Castle:

Palma's iconic cathedral from Parc de la Mer, just after sunset:

Placa Major, Pollenca, full 360 pano with mini-planet treatment.
