Someone was kind enough to give me a loan of a Sigma 10-20mm lens for over a week.
I presume there's many other like me that would like to see how much more you actually capture with a wide angle. So here are some photos comparing 10mm with 17mm.
My thoughts are it's a 'nice to have' lens but I don't know how much I'd use it.

Dineenp - what makes the 10-20 an interesting lens from what I've been told from Jim Ennis is that for landscapes if you have a close interesting foreground object it helps make the landscape photo much more interesting than a regular type landscape photo.

Inside is where I think this lens can really shine giving you the width you need to capture those wide angles you might need.

Hope it helps.

Well, I just got my 10-20 back from Sigma. They insisted that there was no decentering, and that it just needed an AF adjustment. The technician I talked to said that every 10-20 is unavoidably decentered because of something to do with the mirror and the distance between the rear element and the sensor. The focal center of the image circle is in the upper-right quadrant. So I paid for the adjustment. $110 later, images are still smeared along the left edge. Sigh. I swear this lens used to be sharp along the left edge when stopped down.

I recently purchased the 10-20/3.5. I haven't had a chance to really work the lens until this week while on vacation. I am noticing that it is over-exposing. Has anyone here had any problems with their lens doing the same? I used the lens almost all day yesterday, and it almost appears that the aperture is either somehow reversed where 3.5 is the smallest and as you move through the stops, the aperture opens wider, or the blades are stuck. I am confused, none of my other lenses have this type of problem and all meter perfectly on my K5IIs.

That doesn't sound right, I would take it back and see if you can get it exchanged.

If you take the lens off the camera and look through, is the aperture closed or open?

When you flick the aperture lever, does it open or close?

When the lens is off the camera, the aperture is closed; when I move the aperture lever it opens wide but remains in that position momentarily then slowly closes. Also, I purchased the lens approximately 6wks ago during ImagingUSA in Phx through Adorama, so I don't know if they will do an exchange. On the plus side, it is obviously under warranty and CRIS isn't terribly far for me to drive. Thanks for the replies.

Have you contacted CRIS about this yet? You may want to and possibly contact Sigma to confirm that CRIS is an authorized Sigma Warranty Repair Center. The main words there are "Authorized" and "Warranty".

I haven't contacted CRIS yet as I am on vacation and won't be back in Phx until Sat at the earliest. To the best of my knowledge, CRIS is an authorized service center for not only Pentax but also Sigma. As for warranty issues, the lens was purchased 6 weeks ago and has seen very little use (one day this week, and maybe once before that). At first I thought I had inadvertently changed the EV on the camera, using the lens during this week, I am 99% certain that the problem is the lens and not user error. I was hoping someone here might have had a similar issue or would be able to advise me. Again, many thanks for the responses.

Sounds like a sticky aperture, it should close almost immediately (usually described as "snappy") when you release the lever.

If you purchased through Adorama I would contact them directly and try to organise a return/exchange.
