Drove down to Bannack state park yesterday (it's an old mining ghost town, similar to Bodie CA, but not as hard to get to). The mix of fall colors, overcast shade, circular polarizer made PP in Lightroom almost HDR like, but I don't hate the effect, and the old wood has a strong contrast as well. Winter is coming way too soon for my liking in western Montana though, as it was snowing at higher elevations. First time I've used my Sigma in probably over a year, I forgot how much I like super wides.

I don't use this lens enough, and I'm not sure that I get the best out of it when I do use it!

There's a big engineering project underway in my home town of London, Ontario, Canada. Blackfriars Bridge is being removed for restoration and refurbishing. This project involves a lot of heavy equipment. Here is some of it.

@20mm:

@15mm...

...and the same again with some simple Photoshop distortion correction to straighten verticals a bit. See what happens to the yellow ladder and the distant apartment building, both on the right hand side of the image.

@10mm ....

...the same as above with some PS correction.

The Big Lift is supposed to happen this coming Monday. I'm hoping to be able to get more shots of the preparations and the event itself, work schedule allowing...

Later that night....

Used distortion correction on this one as the original angle was pretty wonky, the result of trying to get the top of the crane in. This was hard to see in live-view as the crane itself was not lit.

For some of these shots, I jammed the camera against the fence, using my monopod as a balance/counterweight. Seems to have worked okay. In processing, I tried to counteract the yellow caste produced by the (sodium?) street lights.

I wasn't able to stick around for the big lift, but I got some shots of the final preparation on Blackfriars Bridge.

This is a stitched panorama of several shots taken at 10mm. The stitching is lessthan perfect, but I still like the shot. The combination of the curves in the river, tree and underbrush growth and blocked off road and path access left few good vantage points on the sunward side of the bridge. The guy in the canoe on the right got himself anchored to shoot from the middle of the river!
