Great first shot -- love that dramatic perspective!
Thanks a lot Guys! I can already see that it's going to be stellar performer, mostly evident from all of your photos with it already, ha!

Nice silver K-5 combo there bickrs!

Heres another from the recent cottage trip
Thanks - That's a very peaceful, yet moody shot!

I managed to get some fireflies in a few shots after quite a few attempts while I was in Michigan last week. I love fireflies!

I love fireflies also. Many childhood memories of summer nights in the yard with a jar... Don't know, just really magical in a way when you're a kid.

Last summer around this time (and a bit earlier, actually), I went to sleep nightly with the fireflies abuzz all around me in the forests of the Appalachian Trail. Ah, thank you for rekindling some memories.

I think so, too. I'm also impressed by that astro shot, kyteflyer.

Here's a night scene from Guilin (PROC)--a bit noisy though (I've got to learn how to de-noise!)

Enjoy your new toy, look forward to seeing the images.
I think I might have underestimated just how dark by new toy would make things.

When I first tried it, I honestly thought I left the lens cap on!

Thanks, but at the risk of sounding like I have no idea what I'm doing (which I don't), how do you see any anything with that thing on! But in all seriousness, are you suppose to focus and compose with the filter off and then screw it on when you're ready to take the shot?

Yes, that is what I did with my K10D. Compose and focus first, take the exposure and add 10 stop then attach the filter. However, with your K5, you should be using the live view for focus without screw on/off the filter.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, that makes sense. I did try LV when I was playing around with it, but I was having a little trouble seeing the screen so I tried to switch the to VF and that's when I saw nothing at all. Also, thanks for the tip about metering. It also didn't occur to me (at least at first) that I couldn't meter with the filter on. I guess losing 13 stops puts the light meter outside its working range

Live View's a kick, isn't it? I wish that my K10D have it. I found meter with the filter on is about 2 stop different compared with the filter off, so I overexpose 2 stop to compensate.
