Pentax DA* 16-50mm is WR and pretty close to 15mm but not quite the same

Nice capture with the 15 and I was going to mention the DA* 16-50, but I have never used it. Do have the DA 16-45, but it's obviously not WR.

The 16-50 is weather sealed. It is a bigger lens and significantly less flare resistant than the 15 (although it probably has better border sharpness at similar apertures). There is the new 16-85 that just came out and it is sealed as well, but I don't know much about that lens.

A couple of shots with the DA 15 limited.

HD Pentax DA 15mm F4 Limited

I am new to wide angle lenses and have yet to purchase one. My preferred lens is SMC Pentax DA* 1:2.8 16-50mm. I own a Pentax K-5. Could someone tell me how the HD Pentax DA 15mm F4 Limited would improve the close-up images that I typically photograph? Depth of field is one of my main criteria.

Cheers,
Loyd

Comb Ridge

A view from Comb Ridge. Sleeping Ute Mountain in the distance is in Colorado, 50+ miles away. Anasazi ruin in foreground.

PS: I am having difficulty uploading an Avatar!
I would say it would not help for close-up work, the magnification is not that good (0.15x). Could I ask why you want close up with a wide angle?

You do pictures like that ? (taken from a search on flickr flickr)

Thank you for your reply. I experiment with shapes, colours, and distortions rather than with subjects. I wondered if a wide angle could create an image that had the illusion of 3D. Your ducks, for example, appear to approximate what I want, minus the background. My shots tend to be of shallow, close-up shapes.

Cheers

I wish I could get my birds to volunteer for a shot like that, but none of them are too interested in the camera!

What, for example, would have happened to these images using the wide angle lens?

Anasazi

A small 800 year old ruin on Comb Ridge. Perhaps a bit over sharpened.
