JensE and Hattifnatt, thank you both for the input. Certainly more could be done about the shot I captured under the pier yesterday evening. I am attaching a jpg of the original raw file in which you can see overexposed sky. Post processing is a hit-or-miss for me, still learning...

You don't need to worry... I think you did a great job in PP. You can process a photo in different ways, and different people will have different views on the final result. Some will like it, some not so much for various reasons. No matter what you do, you will not be able to please everybody, so I guess best option would be to choose what's most appealing to your eyes.

That being said, when I have to deal with severely blown up highlights and overexposed areas, I try to see if B&W can save the image. It's just my impression that those kind of shots work better in B&W, sometimes maybe overexposing even helps. But this is not the case with your image, to me it seems it's not so dramatically overexposed, good compromise between sky and bridge details.

... and with both of us liking a different rendition, you definitely were successful on both of them! 'Reading' a picture often depends on your prior exposure, education, habits, much like with music. Somewhat objective criteria such as structure and dynamics of the composition, tonal qualities aside (on both music and pictures), it has a lot to do with fulfilling expectations of repetition of or variation on what you learned to like, or be moved by, previously.

As someone from the NZ South Island who lives in sight of a pretty good chain of mountains, all I can say is 'stunning'. Thanks for sharing the images. The first one is my favourite

Those mornings, I'd say. A lot of early mornings? Great compositions - I always find it very difficult to shoot from that high up with very wide angles. You found excellent textures and shapes for your foregrounds, #7 has an amazing layering.

Dobrá práce! I'd recommend Sigma 8-16 if DA15 ltd. is not wide enough. I have and enjoy both.

Lovely set of images! When I need to go wider I use a Rokinon 8/3.5 and it's great, especially for the price!
