To me, both lenses have pretty minimal flare. I just don't know how much difference you would really see between the SMC and HD versions in real life shooting. On the other hand, there is no doubt that the rounding of the aperture blades makes the definition of the starbursts fuzzier.

If you aren't shooting the sun or strong light sources, there probably isn't too much difference between them.

Being an old film wedding photographer, why not just get the HD and cheap starburst filter? You can get any lens to make pretty starbursts...

It already controls my mind. Test shot in the driveway with K-3.

So I pretty much resigned myself to the fact that it was too difficult to obtain an SMC version aside from the ebay sellers from japan. I saw there was a used HD 15 at B&H for $420, so I bit the bullet and bought the lens. Today the lens arrived and to my great surprise and joy, it's actually an SMC version! Can't wait to try it out!

I have the SMC version and love it, but the HD version would still be welcomed in my house. Any DA 15 is better than none.

Very very nice long exposure mattb!

Why is anyone so crazy about having the SMC version? I even think that these stars from light sources are sometimes distracting! I do habe the HD Version and really like it.

Human nature to want something that is hard to get now.

I am thoroughly happy and satisfied with my HD 15mm and wouldn't trade it straight across for a SMC version. On the other hand if I had an SMC version, I wouldn't buy an HD and replace it, either...
