Wow, that is impressive. I've been thinking about looking at that plugin for some special uses as I love the look of impressionist paintings. Those would look really awesome as canvas prints.

Some sunset photos from a visit to my mom's place in Michigan (she lives on a channel; on the other side of the channel is a short exanse of grass and trees, then a street, and then a largish lake.) I decided to try a few of them in Topaz Impression, and I rather liked the results. Much better than the crappy 'oil paint' filters photoshop has had for ages.

Impression - Impasto style

Impression - I think this one was modeled after Cezanne's style.

That was made from an HDR merge of

and

and a shot that was mostly overexposed but provided the shadow detail and color

Just a straight photo. Minor contrast changes and I added a gradient to the bottom 1/3 or so of the image because the flash I used to light up the little dock was a bit overpowering.

I think the white splotches are a couple of the many mosquitoes that were dining on my legs as I worked on this shot.

Thanks! I decided to use a Groupon and get a couple of the Topaz shots printed to canvas. Going to see if using some Eco Elegance embellishing gel makes them look like a real painting. My mom's an artist (the photos I posted above were taken from her home in Michigan), so hopefully she'll help. I think it dries clear but keeps the texture. A lot of artists use it to add hand-painted touches to giclee prints so they can charge a lot more.

At Adam's suggestion, I started a thread for the Topaz Impression plugin under Photographic techniques:

I went out for moonrise last night but a thick bank of clouds in that direction prevented any moon photos.
So I grabbed this with the DA15 to not come home empty handed.

Nice, that's what I do! Or if it's really big (like the whole sky) I go for the Rokinon 8mm (but shhh don't tell my DA 15)

My first taste of the DA15 comes late next week and I feel the pressure, especially when I see this thread! How will I choose my first shot? How will I know for sure it's performing up to its full potential? What happens when it learns that my mind is too puny to control?

OK i feel better now. Guess I'll just shut up & shoot..

Examples of shooting from the hip street photography with the DA15. F8 and be there as the saying goes. First image was cropped slightly in post to recompose, second just worked out nicely.

A couple more photos of the rays from the setting sun.

I think that the sun's rays are been shown up by very high cloud but if anyone knows I'd welcome their opinion.
