Portland Head Light at dawn. K-3, HD 15

I know it is a subject that has been shot a gazillion times, but I just had to do it. Raw development (and lifting of shadows) in Affinity Photo, and light further editing in Snapseed, all on the iPad Pro.

Despite being done to death supposedly - the thing to recall about these shots is that the light and the clouds and the water will NEVER look the same as when you took it. You own that slice of time as far as this subject is concerned. You did a good job with it too!

Thanks! What you say is very true, and when I look at my shots from over the years, they all bring back wonderful memories, and even if countless others have taken nearly the same shot of the same subject, mine are “mine”. Some of the things I will think about every time I look at this photo will be location scouting and test shots the day before, studying The Photographer's Ephemeris and using the compass on my phone so I would know exactly when and where the sun would rise, being shocked that there were already four other photographers there when I arrived a half hour before daybreak, and that they were all stacked up right next to each other. I had determined during my recon that I wanted to be out on the cliffs more, so I hopped the chain link fence and scrambled over the rocks. One of the previous arrivals followed me out, commenting, “What a great idea!”

Very nice and good to see a wide-angle shot of this subject.

After seeing an article on DPR I came across an Android app called Zoetropic which animates still photos and decided to give it a try, starting with a rather complex shot from the DA 15mm on last year's trip to Japan.

I think it's a cool effect and while I'm not one to go for gimmicks, I do like this one. Time will tell how long it takes for me to get tired of it.

The photo needs something fluid (water, air/sky) to work and I think that it works best with human (or maybe animal) subjects because without human interest standing perfectly still it really could be a simple short video.

I'd like to hear opinions and ideas from others on this.

I tried to post this a few days ago but had repeated problems and then couldn't access the site for two days on any device (was it down???)

I have no experience posting videos and I see my original post was in fact saved but the video posts just as an image, so here's the link:

Same area, same tunnel - different perspective. This one makes me think of the Shire in Tolkien. I keep waiting for hobbits to show up.
