Originally posted by Mccsiz A friend of mine just gave me a box full of Pentax equipment that her dad and late husband used. There are two or three versions of the 50mm, including one that is recessed. Never seen the recessed one before. I think it is a macro lens. Do you know anything about it?

Most macro lenses have the front element recessed in order to allow space for the focusing helicoid, which extends much more than on non-macro lenses. It could be anything from an M42 mount Takumar to a manual (K, M or A) K-mount to a modern auto-focus lens. Whatever it is, it's sure to be superb. I have the A series f/2.8 and it's excellent and have used the M series f/4 version and it's every bit as good, just a little slower.
