This combo below may be the K20D/DA 15ltd's strongest competition - for certain applications, that is:

(Hint on combo: f/2.8, 13mm (equiv to something,) ISO 1000.)

I say 'for certain applications' for a reason, which I'll expand on later.

I'll bite: Nikkor 20/2.8 + D700

Not much of a guess (I cheated). I'm interested in why the caveat, though.

The Caveat? See below:

.

That's one caveat - flare is not close to the DA 15. There are other caveats, also, with this application.

Mainly, the D700 + 20 2.8 does not resolve quite as well as the K20D + DA 15 - for landscapes
and architecture, you can really start to see the disparity when you crop.

The D700 is stunningly good for fast AF, DR (with raw,) and high-ISO - but for good light, low-iso
applications that don't require fast AF, the K20D and just about any high-resolving lens is better.

Part of the reason here is the lens - the Nikon 20 2.8D is good, just not stellar - especially with
flare and contrast. General sharpness is OK.

I think the D3x would be better for this, and the D700 replacement, which is reportedly going
to be at least 18mp - but the 12mp D700 has no advantage over the K20D in this type of
shooting.

Thanks, an interesting comparison.

Well as long as everyone else is doing it

Train station shot with the lights on top (I actually photoshopped the burnt out lights to light up, is that cheating? Copy and flip horizontal!) is hand held, f4 1/8 @ iso400

Is any owner actually NOT pleased with this lens? After all, not many have shown up in the for sale forum. So somebody please be fair now and help me get rid of my obsession for getting this lens by telling how bad it actually is.

Has anyone else noticed a "zoom" bokeh? It seems like the out of focus areas are stretched a little bit towards the center.

Honestly, 15mm ƒ4 isn't ever going to need mega bokeh, and even if something exists, it doesn't exist very much. I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed a slightly zoomy bokeh too.

I haven't seen a shot yet, either posted or on my own, that would cause me to be dissatisfied.
