Some more from same hike. Again, the Pentax 100mm WR macro is some lens.

The box artifact in the spray on the last image appears to be a function of jpg compression or scaling down. It is not in the uncompressed image. Anyone seen it before? I can't recall being affected by it--certainly not so obviously--before.

Met this strange fellow in eastern Madagascar. The 100 was just perfect for this

Peonies. D-FA 100mm f/2.8 WR on a K-5.

f6.7, 1/125, ISO3200 with a K-5, hand-held opportunity shot.

In retrospect I probably should have dialled in f/8 for a little extra DOF (the furthest part of the seed-pod group and its associated petals is out of focus), but light was fading and blur was supervening.

DFA100WR on a 2X TC

However, it's not really a great setup because of:
1. more chance for hand shake because of 200mm FL,
2. Harder to get perfect focus because of 1 and the fact that it's a f/5.6 lens now.
Still a good thing for times.

This little guy is one of the reasons I hold on to this lens. Again, a touch more DOF would have helped get his feet in focus; suspect I will tack on an extra half stop to everything from now on, but got most of him sharp.

It's probably because most of my macro work is shooting straight down, and I need practice with allowing for angles and specimens with depth to them. I am beginning to see why they designed this lens with f stops out to 32.

Loving my D FA 100 WR. I frequently feel inspired by the different perspectives I can achieve with this lens.
