@langkata - fine shots. I guess there could only be one outcome from this struggle!

As for the DOF, going from f11 to say f16 would gain a few millimetres, so it might be worth the trade off in diffraction. Would be interested to hear the suggestions of more experienced macro users about this.

When you want to get past 1:1 with this lens, do you use extension tubes, a close-up filter, or couple a reversed lens to it?

Don't know about the other two options, but for an extension tube you can find cheaper old teleconverters with contacts for $15 to $25. This is good for the 100mm WR as it allows you to still control aperture. You just unscrew the inner ring with a screwdriver and all of the inner parts wiggle out.

I'm glad you posted this. It reminded me to go find my de-glassed converters. For some reason I only used them a couple of times. Here some pics from a couple of years ago while using just one of the converters as an extension:

Yesterday was bitterly cold and with strong winds too - so I warmed myself by browsing some pictures taken on the second day of Christmas with my then brand new DFA 100 WR:

Snow starting to disappear here in Newfoundland. Found a bare spot on the bog with a partridgeberry (lingonberry) that has made it through the winter and a spruce seedling that perhaps has not. SMC PENTAX-DFA MACRO F2.8 100MM WR. f/11, 1/160 (ISO 200)

I've been trying different things in the sink. Upside down wine glass with rainbow-ish backdrop.

Just got a nice DFA 100 WR macro

Awesome lens, fantastic handling and build quality

Tried 1:1 handheld macro with some wind blowing, still nice to look at :P

Insanely sharp, even at large apertures this extracts every last bit of detail the K-3 is capable of.

Lovely smooth bokeh
