Only straight on at the sun Jonathon Mac could I control the flare, other photos putting the sun at 2/3 across resulted in the typical multi-coloured 'spears and saucers' of sun flare stretching across the image. I never used it again for landscapes, I have plenty of modern HD lenses for this.

The 28mm f2.0 Close Focus Komine is a brilliant flower lens though and the bokeh is amazing, the lens has a real colour cast though.

Vivitar 28-210 f3.5-5.6 on Film

Attached is one of the first photos I’d exposed on film in nearly fifteen years! I used my recently acquired Vivitar 28-210 macro lens and Pentax Super Program to capture a honeybee on a daisy.

The Vivitar 28-210 has continued to impress me on my APSC digital bodies. Just an extremely good all around performer which puts many newer lenses to shame in every area except minimum focusing distance. 8 feet except at the 210mm macro setting is hard to live with sometimes.

Update: and some pics. First impressions favourable.
I don't know owt really about b&w photography, but I have figured out that if you play with the blue slider you can highlight the clouds.

Very nice results there.

Here's another from the 28mm f/2 (Kiron)

Vivitar (kiron) 105mm macro @ ~ 1:3 (I was doing comparison with tamron adaptall SP 70-210mm 52A @ 1:2 - see adaptall club thread, this bee landed on the flower behind). Tripod, remote shutter, natural light.

Beautiful... I see the Viv 105mm f2.5 in K-mount goes for at least the same amount of money as the Pentax WR 100mm f2.8 macro. How do they compare?

I don't have the pentax and couldn't really say how they compare. At the same price I can suggest its a bit of a no-brainer to get the modern lens with Af, chip, flash connectability etc. I was lucky to get the viv in PKA mount for the price I did.

Check out hangmans thread (and his contributions in macro threads) for some real insight into the performance of the equivalent Lester Dine version of the viv.

It's about time I shared a photo from my Komine 28mm f/2 close focus. I've had a really good experience with this lens so far, and I feel lucky to have picked it up almost by pure chance. It can be tricky to focus correctly, and I've just learned that often simply setting focus to infinite is easier to create sharp images than trying to finesse a specific focus distance between infinite and the previous distance marker (3 metres). Up-close is where it truly shines, so it's great for close-ups of my cats, but I'm also finding that when focused correctly it also captures some of my favourite environmental scenes, such as this on from much earlier in the year.

I edited this hastily with my blue-light filter still on, so I'm curious to see how it looks tomorrow when I look at it with correct colours. It was also actually too sharp for my usual sharpening methods, so I had to improvise some more subdued settings. Maybe I'll need to give it another pass.

Edit: It's looking quit soft now that I've uploaded it. Does PF do some heavy compressing of attachments? Should I be uploading to flickr instead to link here?

Edit 2: I've changed the image to a flickr link.

I have a Vivitar 28-200mm zoom lens that I used with my Spotmatic, however it will not hold the zoom position if pointing it slightly down. It is very smooth to zoom, but I have to carefully hold it in place to maintain its position, perhaps due to using it so much over the years. I am not sure if I could fix this or where to send it to have it repaired.

I didn’t know until recently that there are photographers still using film cameras and may look more into it.
