Maybe because they were relatively cheap back in the day?

The other reason may be because some real bad stuff was marketed under the Vivitar name in the last decade or so. I personally restrict my Vivitar lens purchases to 1990 or older, except, perhaps, with the exception of the Series 1 105mm Macro. (Would really like one of those...)

I am not absolutely sure, but wasn't that lens released in 1984? I say this because the third digit of my serial number is "4" and the Kiron 105/2.8 was released in 1984.

I don't know. NOS examples were available as recently as three years ago. For some reason, I thought that it was a more recent lens, but maybe not.

I finally got some images from my Komine made 35-70mm f2.8-3.8.

Carnton Plantation in Franklin TN houses a Confederate cemetery. This was just about dusk, so the ISO was up to 800.

That's a beautiful shot Arjay. Here's one from Viv Macro 2.8/100mm (also posted on the pet thread naturally)

Wow, ovim. I still haven't managed to get a great eye shot like this - it must be even harder with a pet. Can you share some details - was this shot handheld and what was the lighting?

Vivitar Series 1 200/3.0, about 1980, probably on Ektachrome 400
(I shot a lot of hockey with this lens. It's still with my set of fast primes, in excellent shape.)

I think it was hand held with ambient light coming theough the window. It was a bright day and the cat was sitting on the white floor of our kitchen pretty close to the window. The cat was wondering what I was doing so she just sat there looking at me intensely. I also added a bit of selective sharpening to the eyes in pp to make them pop even more.

Any one heard of the Vivitar 80-205 mm f1:3.8 Macro (Ser no: 22xxxxxx)? I am looking at getting that along with a Auto Takumar 55/1.8 (Ser no: 42xxxx). The Takumar does not say SMC or Super.... Asking is $50 for both - no boxes, no caps.

The lenses are in great condition... What would be a good counter offer if I were to buy both? Chances are he won't split the pair up.

Thanks in advance!

105 mm with P/K-a to canon

Hello, Im very new to this forum and also very new to photography aswell. My dad is a dentist and he had a film pentax camera with a vivitar series 1 105mm lens to take photos of peoples mouths and he doesn't use it anymore. and for what i have seen it is an amazing lens and I would really like to use with my canon Rebel. Does anybody know what would be the best way of doing it.. there are so many adaptors out there and I don't really know which one will do the job properly since I want to take full advantage of this beautiful macro lens and for what I seen it is an antique more or less.
The lens has a inscription that it is a P/K-a mount maybe?

thank you very much!!!!

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

The Series 1 105 Macro is a wonderful lens and a bit of a cult classic. It can be adapted to your EOS, but I have no idea what adapter would be best. This is the Pentax forum, after all, and we usually don't speak Canonese. A couple of things you can be sure of:
  • No auto-focus
  • Stop-down manual metering
  • Focus confirm will depend on the type of adapter
Should you desire to sell the lens, you should have no trouble finding a buyer and getting a very good price ($300+).
