Vivitar-A 19mm f3.8

I don't use this lens very often, but I should use it more... Here are some taken with the Vivitar-A 19mm f3.8 on the K-50. The second & third ones (B&W) were converted in Topaz B&W Effects 2. Interestingly, even with the lens stopped down to f5.6 (in the first photo), it does decent bokeh.

Nice set of images! I also have this lens, and also don't use it that much. My main problem is it does not like the sun anywhere in the frame! Flares very easily - I tend to use it mostly indoors or outdoors on overcast days. If I can keep the sun out of the frame, dialing in about -.07 or -1 EV seems to help. Does your copy exhibit this behavior?

Paul,

It does tend to overexpose, so I usually decrease by about a stop. I have not noticed flare. However, I use a big rubber hood, and suspect that helps a lot. I tend to not try to shoot into the sun anyway though.

This is from the Vivitar 75-205 f/3.8 version two I bought a few weeks ago. I should really do a comparison as I now own both versions.

My Viv 75-205 was my only zoom for decades of my m42 film camera days. Great lens!

Here are a few shots from the mercado de motores in Madrid - a new & used market in the train museum. These were taken with the K3 and Vivitar 28mm f/2.

Thank you for posting this, I enjoyed going through the comparison shots and was surprised at how well the Kiron "zoomlock" compared to the Viv S1's.
I am hoping that TBC at the end of your post means there is more to come and will include some Tamron 23A. Can it compete? I think so but will wait for you to provide the answer.
To be honest I have enjoyed all your posts regarding the legacy lenses.
Regards
Bob

Thaniks very much for your appreciation Bob. The tbc is an intent for some sort of results/assessment page.

23A pics of the turret and castle to be added shortly.
