Many thanks.

You have both versions? Mine is the Komine version (serial number starts 28) which is apparently the better of the two. I had the chance to get the Kiron version (serial starts 22) a while back but didn't as there's no point in having a lens with the same spec but poorer IQ. Even my LBA can be controlled by logic occasionally.

Vivitar series 1 28mm f1.9

(X post with 28mm lens club).
A desultory low bid, put in more for amusement than anything else, confounded me by winning the lens. Since the lens in question is the desirable vivitar series 1 28mm 1.9, tokina made, obviously I'm happy. The seller had noted that the lens has fungus, but I'm hopeful that shouldn't be too difficult too deal with, primes aren't so complicated - it's not bad anyway, probably having a slight effect mainly at f1.9.

Distinctly soft and glowy at f1.9, IQ is good, particularly centre, at f2.8 on. But I was slightly disappointed at signs of decentering - images softer at right.
Click on this composite to see comparison crops f1.9 - f2.8 - f4 - f5.6 (samsung NX20, 5472x3440px, 3MPx)

Sample pics from around Conwy, mostly f4, f5.6.

A few shots with the excellent Vivitar 28mm f/2.8 (Komine version). I really like this lens - I find myself wishing that it were lighter so it could make it into my travel kit, but at the same time I enjoy it's fantastic build quality, which is where it's weight comes from.

I picked up a Series 1 28-90mm f/2.8-3.5 yesterday. It's in great shape for a lens its age except for the usual slow aperture, which I might try to fix. The lens does work fine on my Fuji mirrorless camera (because the aperture isn't kept wide open by the camera) so I did some test shots. No hood because I didn't have one with me, which shows what a flare monster this thing is, though, like my SIgma 28/2.8, sometimes that can be used to good effect.

Wide open at 28mm it's nice and sharp with a very tiny amount of haze if you peek

Wide open at 90mm it's much softer, but useable. It doesn't seem to really sharpen up at the long end until f/5.6

28mm wide open again, it focuses very close indeed (this is not minimum focus distance)

You seem to be in love with Komine Lens , by the way it is very Easy to Fix the Aperture on this Lens. IN Fact it is child's Play. PM me and I will show you how easy it is.

As far as I know these are the only two in my collection. I'm aware that there's a lot of variance in the quality of Vivitar gear so I don't buy just any one that comes along, so the few I have and use are decent. Thanks for the offer, will drop you a PM. I'd like to be able to use that lens on my K-mount gear.

My experience with Komine lenses concurs with yours - the Komine made 28 2.8 close focus is a gem. (In my son's care atm.) The last Vivitar I have retained is the one touch tele zoom 75-250 F 3.8-4.5 made by Komine. K mount and works well on the MX and ME Super. Solid metal and 850gms.

Agree with you guys here. I recently acquired one from the PF Marketplace and find it very nice. Good build quality and almost Takumar-like handling and rendering.
