I was wondering if anyone has owned and compared these two normal 1.4 Vivitars. The 55mm has a 55mm filter thread and is only found in M42. The 50mm has a 49mm filter thread and is only found in Pentax K. I'm building a set of Vivitar lenses and need a ~50mm. The 55mm is a rumoured Tomioka design but researching that leaves a dead end. Overall I just want to know if there is a significant optical difference between the two. Thanks for any help!
the only thing I can contribute is having a couple of other 55/1.4 lenses that are supposedly Tomioka designs - a Cosina 55/1.4 and a Porst 55/1.4; both are M42...

the Cosina is excellent, while the Porst is a middling mediocre...

I cannot comment on the 50mm lens as I do not have any....

not even allphotolenses has much on either:

Thanks for the info! I checked that database and was also left without much. I just picked up the 55mm 1.4 attached to a 420/sl for a steal at $30. Will add it to the database here once I get it. My 55mm macro just arrived yesterday, heres a shot I got with my NEX-7.

Was going to bid on one last week but it had scratches on the lens. I think it sold for $113

How bad was the scratch? If not too bad it could have been a good acquisition, although I must tell you this thing is a beast at nearly 2,5 lbs.

I've seen some very scratched lenses offered for sale with sample picture that were quite good. It might matter whether you point it into bright light or not!

I would and have bought scratched lenses that I never could have afforded had they been undamaged. Yours, however, went well beyond what I would have paid for a scratched lens...but then I am a dedicated cheapskate.
