Pentax K5IIs - Sigma 180mm f/3.5 APO EX @ f/11 1/180th ISO 80.
This was a good field test for the Manfrotto 1052 flash stands and the pair of Godox AD180s I recently did a
review of.
These highly portable flash units are excellent for macro photography where substantial amounts of flash power are often required in our struggle to get enough DOF.
Left: Godox AD 180 @1/4th power with snoot and 25 degree grid - Right: AD180 @1/16.7th power with the standard reflector with a 40 degree grid attached.
I like working with grids, they give a tremendous amount of control over the light, Also the light shaping tools for the AD180/AD360 are
considerably smaller than their full sized studio counterparts due to absence of a hot modelling light. Some people see this as a
disadvantage, but only if you don't know what you are doing.Modeling lights can be useful to give a preview of the effect of
flash modifiers but in most cases they require light modifiers to be heavy and heat resistant, and the modifiers themselves can get
extremely hot 150~450watt continuous light bulb in them which makes it difficult to break down after a shoot due to the heat.
