Are you going to take the opportunity to visit Hocking Hills during your visit? It has some very nice scenic areas, great for photos.

We usually stop at the old Rocky Shoe factory for a quick meal on the way to Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge and up to Northern Michigan. Going again in September so we'll try to stop at one of the many parks in the area. Saw many very large hawks on fence posts coming down US 33 and beautiful blue skies. Chief navigator only allows so many stops per trip.

Maggie Marsh is right next to the Wildlife Refuge. There are 2 eagles nesting there with several chicks, at least the chicks were there in early May, The nest is located on the right as you enter the rear parking lot. I got a number of great picture of the male perched in a tree, almost like he was posing for me.

Caudill cabin, Basin Cove/Creek, Doughton Park, Wilkes County, North Carolina, Blue Ridge Parkway. Sole surviving cabin from 1916 mountain flooding and accessible on an approximately 12 mile (total) out and back hike with a total of 40 stream crossings (20 each way). Sigma 70-300mm APO DG Macro

Late last year, I picked up a Sigma 70-300mm APO DG Macro (1:2) lens and it has become one of my most used lenses. I love macro or "close focus" photography, but I have some physical limitations that won't allow me to get down close to my subject like when I was young and flexible, so the ability to shoot 1:2 macro ratio from an extended distance (37.4"!) is a Godsend!

I'm not sure if I just happened to get a copy of this lens that was an exception to the rule as far as sharpness is concerned, but my copy has proven itself to be exceptionally sharp throughout the entire focal length. After receiving the lens and shooting some test shots, I wasn't too impressed. But, that was before I removed the UV filter that came with it! The difference after I removed it was like night and day! According to the reviews here on PF, it would have you believe that the sharpness factor was only so-so, but in my case, I'd have to rate mine at least a 9 or above.

These two images are a testament as to the sharpness of my particular lens.... or at least I thought it did, especially after the rather close cropping and enlargement. The photo of the flower was shot at a full 300mm. Just curious.... do any of you have any personal experience with this lens.... and if so, what's your opinion of it?
