Here's the single shot I took with the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 yesterday before switching to the 18-55 WR for the rest of the outing. This shot is much sharper with better contrast that the kit lens shots but it was still snowing so I didn't want to risk using a non-WR lens.

"why" is the question

I've shot a few Sigma lenses over the years.

Been hearing terrific reports and seeing lovely images taken with the new Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Lens.

I feel bad that Sigma no longer makes new Art lenses in the Pentax mount.
Yeah" what's up with that anyway? I just sent Sigma an email asking them about it.

I took my newly-acquired Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 with me to Italy as my main lens and I have to say it performed very well. The corners never get really sharp, even down at f/8 but the centre is sharp from wide open, the colours and contrast are great and the AF is virtually silent, quick and mostly accurate.

Here are a few shots from Venice.

Thanks Kris.

Here are a few more from Venice. My wife complained that it was misty the first day we were there but I think it added to the atmosphere and made for good photos. The next day was clear, so we got the best of both worlds in my view.

I always think bad weather makes historic places look more historic, anyway. Arriving right after a storm, that has driven other tourists indoors, can be a great time to look at the historical features...and take pictures.
