Went for a hike today hoping for some shots of flowers and greenery...

I see that many (or most!) of the posts in this thread involve pictures that you have taken with your Sigma lenses.

But I have a question: I just took delivery of a very nice-condition Sigma 170-500mm APO (non-DG) lens for my Pentax K-S2.

I notice that I can "push-pull" the barrel for quicker zooming, rather than turning the zoom ring.

Is this a good idea? Or will it possibly damage the zoom mechanism?
